I just watched this clip by Alice Peterson talking about her experiences with anti TNF drugs. Watch it if you are considering anti TNFs. It is very encouraging to hear how well she has responded to them. She has written a book called 'Another Alice' about her experience of getting RA as a teenager just when she was on the brink of becoming an international tennis player. The book is very moving but also uplifting. I would recommend this book to anyone whether they have RA or not as Alice's story is inspirational.

Thanks Naomi for letting us know she has written this book, I could do with some inspiration just now, having a dodgy day when I thought I was turning the corner !

I can recommend Alice's book, I read it some time ago.

Thanks for the link Julia, I can identify with what she says. I think much more now about the long term effects of humira than I did when I first went on it, because at that time I would have taken aything to feel better, regardless of the consequences!

I too read Alice's book, when it was first published, and it is truly inspirational. She has also written some novels which are also excellent reads.

Unfortunately it is only with time that any real long problems with the biologic drugs are going to manifest themselves. You take what you are advised is the best or only treatment option available to you because at the time you want to be shut of the ongoing pain and distress that RA causes, even if only for a short time. So many times now I have reached the 'end' of treatment options, a point at which you realise that actually I don't care about the consequences for the future it's now that matters. Like Doreen, I would take anything to feel better!

So much research is ongoing in the field of auto-immunity that the future does look so much more promising than it has ever done in the past. This is excellent news for those recently diagnosed; for most the RA will be well controlled without the need for very toxic medicines and joint damage will be a thing of the past too.

'Another Alice' is such a touching book and I have bought this book for a few friends and family who have also found it inspiring.

I e-mail Alice on and off and she is an extremely lovely person and doing fantastically on her current treatment.

Alot of her book brought back childhood (well, teenhood!) memories of having RA so young.

Thank you Julia i have just watched this. It is useful for me as my son is probably going to be starting anti tnf's very soon for Crohns disease. It was useful to see another young person's perspective on a chronic disabling disease.
